i have plenty of quires, they know how to read and write, i have tables that they can write on in the library, but they don't write anything!

They don't write constantly, most of the time they ponder cheese or something. But eventually you'll get a written-on quire.

@up na brother, i wouldnt be so sure. its either something fishy going on or the book making is rather coutnerintuitive. i got quires, labors, fully decked library, half of the fort of scholars and yet i didnt get a writen material since i started the whole temple thingy which is easy 10+ years. tho in my case all scholars are born citizens of my own fort because i didnt get a single visitor in my 60+ year old fort so i dont know if that is not an issue in my case

Does the library have only tables, or tables with chairs?
Dwarves need a table+chair combo where they can sit to write, and sit to read.
Also, there's bugs that have been fixed in the upcoming version, you might be having them. So you could wait for .06 and see if that release fixes it.
