Tileset Question...
« on: July 04, 2007, 08:42:00 pm »

Hi everyone, i am one of the many people who are flocking this game after the article in GFW. I have only played the game a couple of hours but really enjoyed my sample taste. I would like to "try" to create some new graphics, mostly for the objects. I downloaded the tile set that was posted for the people and creatures and they look great. So i have 2 questions i guess. First: is it possible to edit the graphics for objects? (Food, wood, etc) Secondly: if it is possible how would i accomplish it? Thank you in advance for any help and answers that can be given.

Currently it is impossible to use graphic tiles for anything but creatures.
You could manipulate just the tileset to edit just the things you need (for example change the well character to a well symbol), but that doesn't always work out too well.

You could also beg Toady to allow graphics for every tile, but I'd rather you beg for variable tile numbers :P

But what do I know?
Everything I say should be taken with atleast 1 tsp. of salt, and another liter of Dwarven Wine is recommended.

"I thought it was the size of the others!" said Vanon. "I guess it was just standing further away!"

Gfx for every tiles...would be...awesome! Especially because I love to mod graphics into the games!

There are some tilesets you can download that look a little more like graphics and a little less like text.  I like the ones that are as wide as they are tall, myself.

I will play with full ASCII for now...it is just way to weird to see some 2d tiny creatures running around and the rest of the world is full ASCII.
So I prefer either full ASCII or full 2d tile based.

Which is why my tileset is designed as such. I retained all of the original ASCII tiles, 'cause I like 'em, and so that the tileset can be used with future versions easily, as nothing is specialized, i.e. I didn't make the division symbol, which is used for barrels, look like a barrel. I left it as is.

Yes your tileset is decent 'till we will have "full tile gfx support".

Heh, if you could add other tile graphics it would definitely be done already, considering the first creature pack release was on the day after it became possible.
