Salt water and forests
« on: December 07, 2017, 10:46:47 pm »

I'm trying to set up a new fort (the previous one was in an igneous layer), and found a pretty good aquifer-free temperate conifer forest. However, when I try to embark, it warns me about salt water (I'm 3 Regional tiles from the ocean). Will this affect me in any way?

Assuming it's correct, the pools might be salty, in which case you ought to process the water through a screw pump before using it (but you really should do that with any water you draw from murky pools anyway). Salt muddy water is presumably worse than fresh muddy water, which is worse than clean water (but salt muddy water is still better than no water at all) for hospital cleaning and drinking use, but I don't think it matters for muddying farm plots (I assume it will in the distant future of the farming overhaul).
