"Odds of"Questions
« on: October 26, 2017, 04:38:29 pm »

Here are some questions I have: 1 What are the odds of getting attacked by a necromancer or roughly what year?2 Odds of dragon attack.3 Odds of any Mega beast attack. Note: Base the questions on years.

1. It's possible to get attacked by an undead siege in the first year, though usually it's in the second, but only if you embarked next to a tower. Was "tower" listed in the neighbors screen when you embarked?

2 & 3. According to the wiki, megabeasts (including dragons) will not appear until you have at least 80 dwarves or 100,000 wealth.

The trick is to only make predictions semi-seriously.  That way, I don't have a 98% failure rate. I have a 98% sarcasm rate.

They have a 10,000 'exported wealth' trigger too.
For modding, each beast's trigger is set separately.

Years has no relevance. You can send years as a hermit producing no wealth and you won't attract anything (except a zombie invasion, 'cos they don't care).

And passing the triggers that allow invasion does not cause invasion, just removes the block forbidding it. Undead will only attack if they are nearby and won't commit suicide by going to war against every civ that's sort of nearby. Goblins only attack if they're sufficiently close by and aren't busy attacking sites closer to them (or getting clobbered by the humies). (Semi)Megabeasts only attack you if they're nearby and aren't content with sitting on the ruins of the mountainhome (and haven't been slaughtered during world gen history).

And of course, the longer you wait, the more chance that something else will kill the beast you're waiting for or wipe out the goblin fortress. In that case number of years becomes inversely proportional to the chances of an attack.

Living world. Anything can happen - and not necessarily to you.

Megabeast: given a normal-sized fort, from experience I'd say about a 50% chance each year after two years.
