Argh, go away, damp stone!

Does anyone know what it does?  I mine it away and nothing unusual appears to happen.  Is there a way to make my miners ignore it and just keep digging?

It just means that there's water around (ie. in one adjacent square, including on either of the adjacent z-levels). The reason the game cancels the job is in case your miners are about to tunnel into a giant underground river and flood the fortress without you knowing about it

can also mean your about to hit an aquifier, if your on a map with an aquifier and you hit damp stone be carefull incase you end up flooding entire level
