What font size do I need for 1920x1200 or 1280x800?
« on: June 27, 2007, 01:53:00 pm »

How do I know what font size (eg. tileset) that I need to get?

At home I use 1920x1200 resolution (16:10) and my laptop uses 1280x800 (16:10).

Do I need to find a tileset that has the same aspect ratio?

For example, will HerbDog's 16x16 font work for me if I specify the resolutions I mentioned above? (eg. 1920x1200 and  1280x800)

Thanks,
John

Divide the X dimension by 80 and the Y dimension by 25.

1920/80 = 24
1200/25 = 48

So you need a 24x48 for the first one.  You can also introduce black space around the edges in the init if you can't find one that fits perfectly.

Thanks for the help!

What would happen if I used a font that was half the correct size?  Would it automatically be scaled up?

(eg. apparantly I need a 24x48 font, but suppose I use a 12x24 or even a 6x12?)

It stretches to fit the resolution if you disable the aforementioned black border. If it's enabled, it stays at 1:1 and the excess area will be black.
