Restrained Animal problem
« on: August 31, 2017, 10:43:39 am »

Hi all,

Having a problem, I have a giant rattlesnake monster chained up in my entrence hallway, but it only acts as a punching bag when invaders try to break through. in the wiki it says

Restraints are also very useful in weaponizing otherwise untameable creatures that you've managed to capture in a cage trap. Hostile creatures on restraints will no longer be aggressive to dwarves, which means semi-megabeasts (giants, cyclops, and ettins), bronze colossuses, and even forgotten beasts can be chained up where a guard is needed as these will still draw aggression from invaders and undead, and will fight back when possible

But this snake just stands there being gutted, since it is a giant rattlesnake it can take a lot of hits, but it was very dissapointing it didnt fight back since it has poison and fangs. Is this a bug or do I need to change something?

*looks on the wiki*

DF2014:Giant rattlesnake - Dwarf Fortress Wiki

I'm guessing this is because the snek lacks large predator tag. Dwarves can attack some wild animals on embark for quite a while before they become enraged and strike back.

Ah thanks I see, if I added it in the RAW do you know if it would break the game?

It probably won't break the game. Most probably it will either work, have no effect, or affect only new snakes (newborn or brought in from off the map). Note that you'd have to modify the raw in the game folder, not the main ones, as the raws are copied as the game world is created.

You can totes modify in-game raws on the fly.

You can change the raws for goblins so that they, say, all die at room temperature. Or suddenly make all your dwarves out of steel. Never tried behavioral tags like large_pred tho.
