From the Ashes of the Old Empire

Where there was once a single, mighty kingdom that stretched across the land, there are now but six nations, each squabbling over their legacies.

First is the Faenwood Federation, where the great works of the Old Empire have gradually faded back into dust, slowly and inevitably being reclaimed by nature. It sticks out of the land, its verdant forests jutting out into the endless oceans.

To the North of it lies the Nevermelt Imperium, absolute rulers of the icy Northern wastes. A tenuous government sustained only by the life-giving force of the volcano known only as Kakaros.

Shoved up against the the Imperium's border sits the Gebirge Meritocracy, a curious oddity among the nations of the world. Cut of from the outside by towering mountains, it has formed a society based on merit, and one's contribution to the whole.

To the south lies Varlin, home to both the ruined city of Ratvar, and the deadlands which surround the cavernous ruins. It has built it's entire well-being off of those cursed stones and relics.

Finally, one looks at the three island nations, one on each side of the continent. To the east lies the Xianghu Theocracy, where they worship the sea, and are ruled completely by an authoritarian regime.

The first island nation to the West of note is the Petrisapph Republic, pale blue islands, rumored to be created by one of the survivors from the Doom that befell the Old Empire. It is a marvel of the world, and nowhere else has anyone seen the vegetation which grows there.

Lastly, to the North of the Republic sits the Kingdom of Hakaran, a cluster of islands surrounding the titular Island of Hakaram. The Hakaramites are a raiding people, and perhaps a little bit backwater compared to the rest of the world. In any case, what they lack in technology they more than make up for in pure, unadulterated fervor.

To the south of these great nations lie the lands that history has forgotten. What happened to the first settlers of those lands, no one quite knows. But all that they ever were has been swallowed up by either swamp or sun or endless sands.

Does that make scientific sense? No? Well it's Earth IV and he's a giant crocodile-man. Use your imagination.

Year 1, Month 1

In international news, the Gebirge Meritocracy has claimed some of the hills to the north of Varlin.

The Western Ocean is experiencing some unusually strong storms, especially for this time of the year.
