The GDSU is not a frequent user of magic on the governmental scale. Civilians, however, make frequent use of ancient forms of magic, with clubs dedicated to its use. Magic of this sort is generally finicky, and is tied to the land. Magic is strongest in holy spots, where magic has been previously cast, or when animals or humans have died in an area, for example, towns, battlefields, magic clubs, and churches. If one was to try to cast magic in a barren wasteland, very little would occur, at least, using Gralnistani magic. There are a few broad classifications of magical types, listed here:
Inner Magic: Magic connecting in the body, for example, self or touch-contact healing. This category normally applies to healing spells and simple pick-me-ups, though warriors skilled in this category have the capability to rip people apart with a touch. Such people are branded criminals and madmen, though the odd restrained warrior-monk may know this practice.
Outer Magic, Utility: This magic type is magic that works beyond a foot radius of the caster, and, as a utility, includes such things as levitation and repairs.
Outer Magic, Combat: "I cast magic missile at the darkness."
Enchantment: The placement of magical power in a non-living object. Normally involves rituals, and possibly animal sacrifice. this process is fairly laborious. Effects range from a torch that never goes out to a blade that chills flesh.
Gralnistani magic is rather outdated, and does not mesh well with technology, unless you want to sacrifice ten goats for a monkey wrench.
