how to desensitize my chef?
« on: July 03, 2017, 08:09:03 pm »

so my third spring has just come about and ive been doing well mass producing meals for the trade caravans, however my legendary +5 chef is producing 80+% meals as masterworks. this is making trading them difficult as i dont want him tantruming from art defacement. i was checking his thoughts and found that he had 7 messages about art defacement in the past season..... i havnt had any traders yet so i havnt traded them away by mistake so i assume some of them rotted away or got eaten by vermin....

anyway i really dont like that he gets stroppy when the food he cooks doesnt get eaten and i dont really like that he would get stroppy if i started selling them. is there a simple way to make him stop caring? or at least care so little that it doesnt make a difference?

i currently have 31 barrels full of masterwork roasts and i dont really want to re-assign my cook and wait for those stocks to be depleted by consumption

43_04 fix the problem about selling masterworks.
http://dwarffortresswiki.org/index.php/DF2014:Release_information/0.43.04

If you use and old Lazy New Pack with 43_03, change to 43_05, lazy new pack have been update to 64 bits.

They already care so little that it doesn't make a difference. Severity of the art defacement bad thought is inversely proportional to the number of masterworks already produced.

The trick is to only make predictions semi-seriously.  That way, I don't have a 98% failure rate. I have a 98% sarcasm rate.

Tangentially, I've been focusing more on producing happy thoughts and not worrying about the negative ones.  Mostly it works out (and when it doesn't, you're probably in trouble anyway).  Try throwing a statue, a trap and other fine furniture in your chef's quarters or on a path to his kitchen where he'll be forced to admire them, and let the negative thoughts flow.

thats fantastic guys thanks. i didnt realise the significance of bad thoughts goes down with repetition.... however the bug fix will probably be the problem solver :)
