Any ideas for a barbarian race?

Try making them use some more primitive weapons- clubs, claws, spears, etc, and value Tradition above everything else.
As for the race themselves, try going for a race of giants, or maybe a race of lizard-folk. Horns optional.

And stick them to the mountains- Hamlets and such towns will gen there with... minimal problems.

Minimal problems? What problems would arise, although minimal?

Primarily just problems with fast travel. Nothing to severe... At least from what I've seen.

Ah. Already ideas are flowing through my head for the race. Lizardfolk, like you said, called Redscales. This is obviously for their red scales. This is it so far for appearances.
