The Dwarf Fortress Pure Pack (DFPP) brings you the cleanest possible experience of this great game. This is Dwarf Fortress in its simplest and most pure form: glorious low-bandwidth text output and nothing more.

The pack comes with ten fonts that will give you an authentic text-mode display on a modern computer. Choose a DF-community font or go with a classic Px437 PC font, included from the "Ultimate Oldschool PC" collection.

The pureDF server has been preconfigured with SSH and version 43.05 of Dwarf Fortress! Using the df1 account, you can play the game from anywhere you have a computer with network access. You can even let others watch your game over the network by using the dfview account.

Requirements: an amd64 compatible computer
(this computer will become the DF server)

You can write the image using Win32DiskImager if you're in Windows.

My goal was to get a Linux DF server image that could easily be deployed via USB (in fact, you can keep everything on a USB drive). You can add other server features but the idea is to use it as a dedicated DF machine.

The player account can be accessed via SSH (or telnet, or the local console). If desirable, other people can watch the game via a guest account. Obviously, you should never allow anyone access that you don't trust. It is very easy to expand to multiple accounts, allowing people to share a single "DF server".

I have used PuTTy to play the game for a long time. Despite the fact that SDL does very little in Dwarf Fortress, I still see better performance from text mode. It's also fun to be able to copy text from the various screens.

I hope someone will find this useful. :)

Can I use this over the internet?
Or only over a network connection?

I know it's possible to Putty college servers from home, if you have the right setup.

And just to verify, A Bootable linux server pairs with Windows clients?

So you have this set to your server by default?
I can't seem to login.

I can't seem to login.

It's a bootable Linux server image that you can use with the Windows client (PuTTy).

You can use this over the Internet. You will need to open a port on your router and point it to the server.

Make sure you have the right IP address for your server and that should work in PuTTy. If you still have trouble, send me a PM and I'll try to help.
