Fallout 4 is a great background game. I alt-tab to it and forget I was working and then..the work day is over! 

Being serious, I was playing Astrox Hostile Space Excavation and The Spatials. With The Spatials you can build a little bit, let your guys collect resources, send them on contracts (3-5 minute 'passive' missions in which they'll go get loot and come back), and you can also actively do a few 2-5 minute missions. What I found is that the game is pretty boring if you actively play, but it works perfectly for background.

'Unfortunately', I was more or less promoted..and now I have to actually pay a lot of attention to what I'm doing..so background gaming / youtube watching is no more.
