Jeweler is driving me crazy.....
« on: April 02, 2017, 06:36:00 pm »

I dont understand why im having this problem. The dwarf keeps saying there are no *gem name* avalible to encrust/cut when I have a stockpile by it full of the gems in question. He even cut a portion of them.

1. I have no defined burrows
2. Moved the shop twice
3. Menu has C and E highlighted white
4. Items arent forbidden/dump
5. Removed stockpile
6. No bins

Any idea what is wrong?????? The gems are now on the floor binless and he still refuses to acknowledge existence

Are the jobs set up for only a specific skill level?
Has the jeweler lost their hands while hauling a crocodile?
Are they being used for a hauling job to a separate stockpile?
Are your workshops set up to only accept from links?

Have a look around to see if you have some gems somewhere that are inaccessible.  I've had this exact message for that reason.  Not sure why the correct error message wasn't shown.  The even more likely problem is: bins.  If you put the gems in bins, every time someone tasks a gem to put in the bin, or take it out of the bin, *all* of the gems are unavailable.  So a particularly nasty scenario is when you cut a gem, it get's tasked for hauling to the bin right away.  At *that point* all of the gems in the bin are unavailable.  Then the hauler walks half way across the map, picks up the gem and deposits it in the bin.  Don't use bins.  Or, what you can do is cut all of the gems first and then encrust second.

This is what got me, thanks. I assumed having a finished crafts stockpile on give to workshop would just mean only those goods are allowed to be encrusted and wouldnt effect anything else. Didnt know you have to have a gem stockpile on give to the workshop as well atleast for my situation

Aye that's what killed my roc egg and giant bee honey biscuits a while back, thought it might've been possible.
