This thread did plant the thought of re-installing FAF in the back of my mind a few months ago. Made some room on my hard drive and did so today.
Man, I am so rusty. Must have been 3-4 years since I last played. Completely forgot how to tech up efficiently.

I agree, most of them are really micromanagement heavy and the strategy aspect is just adapting you build order based on any damage your base and army takes.  Its profoundly meh.

Ye olde supcom at the very least lets you spend more of your time staring at the overall map and contemplating your situation rather than diddling around with your units in battle.

I have found it necessary to turn off nukes in both 1 and 2 with the AI, because I like long games, and it eventually just turns into "oh, the AI fired 15 nukes simultaneously, guess the game is over"

True, that can be fun.  Most MP stuff tends to be as short as possible because it turns out the best way to win is to viciously rip out your enemies heart as early as possible.

Obviously a 6v6 would last up to like two hours, but you would still generally see people defeated by what amount to 'cheap shots' rather than their conventional armies being defeated.

Maybe us bay12ers could set up a match that dispenses with some of that.

The survival coop maps (and coop campaign for that matter) are pretty fun to play too

Honestly, most of the matches I've seen have ended either with clever use of forces/nukes to open up and exploit a weak point, letting someone build a game-ending experimental, or really really really aggressive ACU play which ends in inevitable tragedy.

I watched a match one time, very high-level play, 3v3... One guy managed to get a Paragon up and running, and then the spam started.  At one point there was something like 5 Paragons on their side of the map, with varying ownership split between the three of them.

Somehow, they actually lost... And once the enemy cracked the shell and managed to push into the home territory, you got to see just how explosive those damn things are, hehehe.
