Alternatively, get ready to lock and load with the suppressed rifle/Wu pistol. Try to take put the guard who is marching toward us quietly.
+1 to this; If we toss smoke, they'll definitely know something's up.
Mm-hmm. No need to put them on such high alert that they call for backup.

If there is somewhere we can (temporarily) hide from the guy approaching us, do so. Then shoot him with whatever weapon is quieter, and quickly drag him out of sight.

If not, just shoot him wherever he will be hardest to spot for the other soldiers, like if he passes a wall between him and the rest of the camp or something.

The biggest concern I have with this course of action is either not getting a kill shot first time on the guard and he cries out in pain, alerting others, or we don't get an immediate KO shot with the pistol, so he has time to see us and alert the others before the tranq takes effect.

Good point: How long does it take for the tranquilizer to take effect?

Assuming it's like the game, immediately for a headshot, and if not it depends quite where they're shot and how many times.

Exactly. Headshot-tranqs take effect immediately, but you're not a good enough marksman to pull them off in rapid succession. You are a trained soldier though, and can pull one off if you're within your gun's effective range and have a moment to line up your shot.

A tranq anywhere else on the body will take effect after a short while, half a minute or so. Two body-tranqs will take effect in a few seconds, and three body-tranqs is KO, but you only get so much ammunition.

Next turn will go up this afternoon.

You're in a pincer situation. Not good. Luckily, the guard overlooking the road seems intent on only looking at the road, so you decide to hide behind the small tent and hope he doesn't turn around. You learn up against the canvas, and start counting seconds.

One... I really hope that other guard doesn't turn around...
Two... No, he's still focused on the road...
Three... He should be up the stairs now...
Four... He's turning the corner about now, I think...
Five... He'll be in range soon...

You sprawl on the ground and pull yourself out of cover, pistol in front of you. The guard in front of you slows his pace and squints in your direction while you line up your shot, and just as his eyes widen and he starts to let out a shocked gasp-!
fssssht-*
"Uhhgh..."
*flop*
Nailed it. Right in the head, and he's even next to the part of the ridge that's reinforced with sandbags. They'd have to pretty much trip over him to notice him there. You briefly pause to consider that you might have hit him in the eye with a tranquiliser dart, but, eh. Such is a soldier's life.

A new voice comes through your earpiece as you circle to the south of the tent for cover.

"Hey, how's it going? I'm Ochre Capybara, the Russian Translator. I took a look at that document of yours, and the short version is that the Eastern Communications Post is receiving supplies today. The weird thing is that this notice makes a big deal out of it, 'formal notice to be on your best behavoir' et cetera, but according to intel he was driving alone, not with an escort. Seems odd to make such a big deal out of a standard supplies run, but if there were something important going on, you'd expect the driver to have guards with him.

Anyway, I'll be providing you with support from here on out. If you find any more documents or manage to capture an enemy soldier, I can perform real-time translation."

Finally, some decent support.
With that guard unconscious, you have a moment to consider your options. He'll wake up on his own eventually, and who knows how long before someone thinks to wonder where he went, but nobody's actively pursuing you at this second. The two soldiers near the truck seem to be on overwatch, and the two investigating point A are standing still... one of them speaks into his radio. It comes through your earpiece clearly.
"CP, это Зои четыре. Мы исследовали область, но мы не можем найти врага. Над."
"CP копий. Все единицы, пребывание в состоянии боевой готовности. Враг по-прежнему может быть рядом. Над."

What do you do?

Pull him behind cover and wake him up before grabbing him. Get info from him by any means necessary, including coercion, gunpoint threats, and wrestling moves.

Get that radio chatter translated.
If it is nothing relevant, start sneaking towards point C via point E. If that would require passing the LoS of the truck guards, throw a magazine to distract them and then sprint for cover (assuming no one would see you; otherwise just hang out at point E for now)

We've already got our translator working - just mouse over the text the Russian soldiers are saying, and you'll see the translations.

You cast about for a way to get the unconscious soldier into cover to interrogate him, but the only good way to transport anyone that far is to carry them... and the two soldiers by the truck would probably see you doing that. So you decide to simply interrogate the soldier where he is, hoping the low sandbags shield you from sight.

You dive out of cover, landing heavily on your belly, and start crawling south, alternating between your left and right legs to propel you forward along the dusty ground.

A few seconds later, you are near the unconscious soldier, and briefly contemplate how to wake him up. You settle for a dope-smack. You bring yourself up to a low crouch, and give him a sharp slap in the face. The soldier mumbles and opens his eyes, but doesn't focus them. He starts trying to pull himself up to his feet, but before he's even got his arms steadily beneath him, you loop your arms under his and hold them back, with your knife pointing to his throat. He breathes in a gasp, seemingly awake and aware of his situation now. You bring your ear close to his and whisper, "Talk."
The soldier responds with a quivering voice. "Я вам скажу, кто водитель грузовика питания ... Он знает больше ..."
"Map has been updated," your shorkDroid informs you. One of the enemy icons on your map is now marked with a dot.

None of the enemies have moved significantly in the last couple dozen seconds. What do you do?

Ask Quivering Aardvark Ochre Capybara what the dude just said.

Also kill the dude.

Crawl over to the dude past point F, interrogate and murder him too.

Also kill the dude.

What is the SOP on killing enemy soldiers? (Obligatory stupid question)

I'd rather we just choked him out, since the enemies aren't exactly trying to sweep us out anyway, and I'd rather not get (more) blood on our hands.

Do go to the past Point F soldier and interrogate him after sneaking up on him, but don't murder him either (unless there are people closing in or something).

Oh right. I'm on my phone so I couldn't do that heh.

Do bad things with the pointy end of the knife to his throat.

Killing people at this point just seems reasonable. The last guy woke up quickly after being battered, and it probably wouldn't be so good to have him wake up and ruin our stealthy murderfest document hunt.
