Elves. I have had hordes of goblins die screaming, butchered like the vile filth they are, turning from a filthy meat-bag to a filthy meat-smear, and they know their place. Elves, on the other hand, have an air of superiority.

They believe they are all that is right in the world. They view dwarfs as inferior, and disrespect our cultures with their endless prattling on the trees, and the environment, and the wildlife, and since they love it so much, we shall use the bones of animals to catch and impale them, teach them the ways of volcanic ecosystems by granting a special "Up Close" experience, and burn the corpses in huge furnaces made of their beloved trees. They shall know fear, agony, and the face of death as it approaches. Their hopeless diplomats will be met, not with cold iron, but with hot steel, conceived in the blood of the mountain and born by the will of Armok in the forges.  They will bend to our will, else they will burn.

Goblins. Elves don't carry steel onto my map. Plus, I like trading with elves, they bring a lot of food.

I love establishing good relation with the elves at first, giving them much ethical profits. Then when their diplomats come and give their ultimatum, I tear down the forest Saruman style and kill their merchants and take their goods. Was able to decorate the throne room with the head of the elven diplomat one time when a axedwarf severed his head  Would be fun to be able to mount it on a spike as it was replaced by trash later on.

Though it doesn't always trigger elven invasion, but it is more fun to fight arrogant elves than goblins imo. And they don't bring 100+ beak dogs

More seriously. My yes answer is more based on that nothing has attacked me in about 3 years at this point, some monkeys show up every once and a while to try and steal metal bars, but i built a gate and now they cant. First couple years, i got a yearly or so 300 goblin attack, as soon as i was able to build a military and some defenses, everything stopped coming at all. no more undead waves from the tower nearby, no goblins, nothing. Between  the two, goblins, i get more useful battlefield loot. wood armor means nothing to me, pile of random metal is valuable on my map.

I will probably be accused of being "undwarven" here, but..

I for one would rather be attacked by Goblins.
Why? Because in my opinion..
Even if Elves have an "holier than thou" attitude towards Dwarves,
war between them would be quite counter-intuitive.
Especially when there's a bigger threat lurking on the horizon.
And that threat are the greenskins, or Goblins to be more precise.

That's true, but sometimes you can get those worlds where it is the elves that is waging war against the dwarves and taken over fortresses driving dwarves to extinction. So never trust an elf!

@ChristianWeiseth: More interesting is when they manage to take over dark fortresses; in that situation they get to grow far larger in population in single site than even in largest forest retreats. 

Though granted, it's still just elves, just more of them.
