The Tale Of
Latugdur Stoneskin
Part 4

They continued the journey north and crossed a river to reach a nearby hamlet. There they rested for the night in the hamlet outside near the well. When morning came they ate their usual breakfast of water and troll pancreas. They made a campfire to heat the ice up into water. When that was finished they all drank until they were full and headed off further north. It was time to head east now and so they went through a forest retreat to cross a river and crossed another river that was not far. When they stopped at a third river they had lunch. There were crabs there and Guurguul chased them down and killed them. Latugdur watched on at his handiwork. Guurguul's sliced the crab in two with his halberd. They crossed the third river and Guurguul killed another crab. There was nothing but forest past that river, when nightfall came they had no choice but to sleep in the forest. It was raining and they all slept under a tree to avoid getting too wet. Thunder rang out in the distance and it was hard to sleep. They did eventually get rest but it was after the thunder and lightning stopped. They slept soundly from that point until morning. They awoke, the birds were chirping and the squirrels running from tree to tree. Their breakfast was short and they began to travel further east. The crossed a river and shortly after hit the coast, they traveled northeast from there and saw a hamlet in the distance. They seemed to be getting nowhere, there was more ocean to the north. Latugdur had taken a wrong turn. He looked on his updated map someone had slipped into his backpack, probably from the tavern keeper at "The Olive Oats" or something for singing well. There was a point to the south which was where the two landmasses met. They turned around and traveled south until nightfall. They made camp in the forest and slept well that night despite the mistake Latugdur had made. He should have gotten a map by asking for it, not just the blind luck of someone realizing he wasn't from around here. 

In the morning they set out a bit further south until they came to the place the landmasses met. From there they traveled east until they hit a river. They had skipped breakfast and ate and a big meal for lunch. The hills were quiet compared to the forest, fewer birds chirping. They crossed the river and continued even further east. It began to rain and fog was everywhere here. They had entered a wet part of the world. It didn't stop raining even after they passed two rivers and a hamlet. It was late and they stopped in at the hamlet for the night. Some nagas were in the middle of town and began to follow the group. Latugdur anticipated trouble even before they told Srithmog to yield and hand over his possessions. Latugdur got angry at this foolhardy group of nagas and punched the most well armed one in the face. The fight was on, Srithmog kicked a naga in the tail. Urb grabbed and naga and threw it. No one drew their weapons but the blows were exchanged and the orcs were clearly winning. Guurguul kicked a naga in the head and killed it. Latugdur was throwing nagas to the ground and hitting them so hard limbs were collapsing. By the time all was said and done there were 4 nagas dead on the ground.



It was still raining so they found a nearly empty house. There was one leatherworker inside and Latugdur asked "May we stay the night" to which the leatherworker replied "Of course, it would be a shame to leave you out in the rain." They gathered inside away from the cold rain and sat in a close circle for greater warmth. They talked a bit about the nagas. "Well at least it was a easy fight, I didn't even mean to kill that one" Guurguul said. "Let's just be on our way in the morning" Latugdur stated. "Oh so you killed those nagas that were robbing the hamlet blind ?" The leatherworker said and continued "Thank you, they were a real nuisance". They were happy the townsfolk weren't offended that they spilled blood in their town. Orcs are nice company that way. They stepped outside to see the rain had turned into snow and covered everything. It was hard to move through but they were wearing enough layers to compensate for the cold weather. They made a fire and warmed the ice in the water skins into water. They drank water and ate more troll pancreas. After a while the snow started to turn into rain again and began melting the snow on the ground. They exited the hamlet and headed east. The went to cross a river and some alligators jumped out and attacked. Latugdur was already across the river but the other orcs were trapped on the other side. Latak was bitten in the left eye and the alligator mangled it before the group could kill the alligator with their weapons. Latak looked stunned at what had just happened "I can't see one side now, what's going on?" said Latak with a fearful expression. Latugdur swam back across the river and tried to comfort Latak and told him "Your eye may still heal it's still in one piece." They gathered and crossed the water stinging Latak's eye and socket. Then continued they continued east in the hope of reaching the bandit camps and some much needed weaponry practice. They came to a desert after many leagues of forest. They moved through the sand at a slow pace and eventually came to a river. They sat and had their final meal of the day. The sun was low in the western sky and they made camp at the side of the river. They was only three days of pancreas rations left. They went to sleep and Latak made no mention of his fear of scorpions. There was a growl and they awoke to find there were leopard people charging at them. Latugdur shouted and everyone woke up and looked around. It became clear they would have to fight and they all stood at once. Guurguul and Urb were the first to the fight. In his first swing Urb killed a leopard woman by cutting off her head with his axe. Guurguul used his halberd with relative ease because of his natural strength, he cut into a leopard man and blocked several attacks. Urb cut off the leopard man's hand and sent it sailing. Guurguul used his halberd to spill the other leopard woman's guts. There were body parts all around the group now. Latugdur charged but by the time he got there the three leopard people were dead, he was impressed at how quickly the fight was won. They went back to the camp and laid down to sleep again. They were awoken once again, this time by a giant horned owl hooting very loudly and attacking them. Latugdur let the Uruks handle it, he was tired of getting up. They quickly killed it and came back to the camp. What a disruptive desert this was.

The dawn sunlight crept over a dune and woke up the troupe. There they were not far from a significant amount of corpses. The Uruks saw a group of badger people not far from them and gave chase. Latugdur made a fire and warmed the ice in his water skins while the Uruks slaughtered the badger people. A leg flew his direction as he watched and drank water sitting in the sand. The badger people were hacked to bits in a short amount of time and Latugdur went out to meet the Uruks halfway. He handed them water and troll pancreas and patted them on the back.



They ate their meal and left the camp site. Heading even further east. The crossed a river and ate lunch at a second one. Guurguul attacked a buzzard near the river and quickly killed it. He was tired of troll pancreas and butchered the buzzard for meat. The Uruks were pleased by his choices and Azguuruk gave him a hug and took some meat. They cooked it over the campfire and ate some. Latak still ate the troll pancreas, he thought it was delicious after he had grown accustomed to it and it became an acquired taste. Latugdur also ate the troll pancreas because he had never eaten a buzzard before and wasn't sure he would like it. The rest of the orcs found it a bitter, probably because buzzards ate rotting flesh as part of their diet. After they were done they crossed the river and went east for a few leagues and came to a field. It began to rain a few leagues into the field. Latugdur tried to look at his map under a tree and pinpointed their location. It was called "The Field Of Bulbs". They were not far from their destination. He could see some bandit camps to the north of them and a town to the northeast. They sought to travel to the bandit camps up north. They crossed a river and came to another part of the desert. Just at the edge of the desert Latugdur began to feel uneasy. Something was watching them. He went up a hill and saw a pack of wolf people. Azguuruk charged first and came close but jumped out the way of an attack. Azguuruk stabbed the wolf man in the upper body and he had trouble breathing. Azguuruk blocked an attack. Srithmog was next to the fight and stabbed a wolf man in the upper body with his pike shattering his ribs. Latugdur finally caught up and punched a wolf man in the hand crushing it. Azguuruk dodged another attack and stabbed a wolf man in the upper leg causing massive bleeding. Guurguul stabbed a wolf man in the upper arm with his halberd causing the limb to stop moving. Azguuruk slashed a wolf man in the upper body shattering the ribs. Guurguul slashed a wolf man with such force that it dug halfway into the wolf man's chest and caused it to howl in pain. Latugdur crushed a wolf man's spine with his foot and Guurguul finished one off with his halberd cutting apart the creature's neck. In a few more moments both the remaining wolf people were killed. They headed north again and stopped at a river for lunch. They were halfway to the bandit camp. They ate the usual troll pancreas and drank water. They crossed the river and make it to the bandit camp by mid afternoon.

They crept in from the south and saw a bunch of humans around some loot. Latugdur identified the leader and walked right up to him punching him in the hand. The hand collapsed into an unrecognizable lump. The fight was on. The bandits charged Latugdur from far away because the leader had been standing so far from the rest of the bandits. Latak lead the Uruk charge and slashed off a human wrestler's left lower arm with his normally two-handed sword. Azguuruk stabbed the frail wrestler in the foot and it came apart as the frail wrestler screamed at another lost body part. Azguuruk then did the unthinkable and slashed off the frail wrestler's other arm. Srithmog got the frail wrestler's left leg with a stab of his pike that made some bones snap from the sound. Then Srithmog punched the frail wrestler in the lower right leg breaking some bones there too. Azguuruk cut off the frail wrestler's left foot with her halberd. The frail wrestler was now without hands or feet. He uselessly tried to attack with bloody stumps to no avail. Srithmog began work on the sparse-hair human wrestler in the group. Srithmog cut into the sparse-hair wrestler's leg and sent him to the floor. Azguuruk slashed the sparse-hair wrestler in the chest and broke his ribs. Latugdur finally left the Uruks behind and went after the leader. Drawing his claws he stabbed him in the gut making the leader vomit. He followed up with a strike to the chest that broke his ribs. He slashed him several times but the armor and the leader's skill with a shield stopped Latugdur from doing any kind of major damage. He finally stabbed the ledaer in the head piercing his brain. The leader died at his feet shortly after. By the time he went back to the Uruks the fight was finished and the enemy was in many pieces. He was proud of his Uruks for doing so well.



They traveled north to the next camps Latugdur knew they were ready, after all they had already proven themselves. They stopped in the desert for the night. The troupe had a good sleep with no interruptions. The dawn light came over the dune and they awoke and ate a breakfast. The usual troll pancreas was getting boring at this point but it was almost done. After the meal they went north and crossed a river. They then head a little north and crossed another river west of them near the twin bandit camps. They entered the first camp and found 3 humans. 1 axeman and 2 wrestlers surrounded a pile of loot and Latugdur simply walked up and kicked the leader axeman in the stomach, he flew a bit and skidded along the ground coming to a halt. The Uruks did the rest, they tore apart the leader starting with the leg which skidded to a halt on the ground beside the shocked axeman. Guurguul make a few quick strikes that rendered the axeman unconscious and then cut off his head. One of the wrestlers ran for his life while the other acted as if he wasn't a bandit at all. As the others chased down the fleeing wrestler Latugdur walked up to the wrestler pretend not to be a bandit and punched him in the face so hard his head collapsed. When the Uruks returned all their weapons were covered in blood. "We hit a group of buzzards too" Azguuruk said. Latugdur could not explain the Uruks irrational hate of buzzards, at every opportunity they would attack the carrion creatures. "Well done, another camp has fallen to us" Latugdur stated with some pride in his group, this was no impressive accomplishment though. They set out for the other camp. When they found it they were surprised by how many of them stood around the loot. Latugdur thought he counted 11 but he wasn't sure. He didn't see a leader. Latugdur walked up to an enemy sentry and grabbed him by the robe. "What are you doing?" the human wrestler blurted out "It's time to meet the gods!" yelled Latugdur and punched the sentry in the head crushing it. He then walked up to a thin human wrestler and punched him in the head killing him. A human wrestler charged and Latugdur grabbed his ear and took the wrestler to the ground. Latugdur followed up with a punch to the left foot that caused it to explode in gore. He punched the wrestler in the stomach and he vomited all over himself .Latugdur kicked the wrestler in the leg and it collapsed, the wrestler let out a cry for his mother, then a god, then his mother again and continued to vomit. With one final punch to the head the wrestler was dead. The Uruks caught up to Latugdur shortly after. None of the bandits wanted to fight them, he could see the fear in the nearest bandit's face. "Please just take what you want, you could join us why make enemies?" the grating-voice wrestler asked, fear still afflicted him so much he could not move. Latugdur walked up and said "I don't want your gold" and quickly punched him in the foot, it collapsed. The grated-voice wrestler let out a cry of pain and some tears knowing these were his last moments. Just then Latugdur let him go and left him to his fate, which happened to be dismemberment by urukhai. Another wrestler charged in and was quickly decapitated by Latak with his two-handed sword. Latugdur stood back as the Uruks killed 4 more bandits. Urb killed two of them, one was hacked in half and the other was decapitated. A spearman ran away but Latugdur did not want to give chase. There was one wrestler left just below the dune they were on. Latugdur decided they only need one survivor to spread the story that would be told of this. He walked up to the fearful wrestler and kicked him in the neck, it broke his spine and he fell down. Latugdur simply punched the wrestler in the head and it exploded. They were done at this camp. This adventurer business was getting too easy, he didn't even have to get out his claws this time.



Latugdur, walked to the west and let out a sigh. So many faces haunted him. He was sick of these bandits, they were too easy prey. He wanted something grand now, something hard to attain. He looked on his map and the first thing he thought was : rule a kingdom and take leave from this adventuring for a while. He set his sights on the town they had just passed. He would make it his. "What would say to little kingdom of our own friends?" Latugdur asked the Uruks. "Well it would be nice being a queen if that's what you mean" Azguuruk said with a smiling face. "Latugdur lead us to glory!" Urb yelled, now aware that he was now a decent warrior and could hold his own against most threats they would encounter. "Then let us take 'Soundeddevils' and make a kingdom!" Latugdur yelled and they marched west in a more soldierly fashion than they ever had before. They crossed several rivers without stopping and entered "Soundeddevils" by nightfall. Just outside the castle they ate a meal of the last troll pancreas and some water. He already had a name for his kingdom "The Ageless Hex" he would gain his kingdom and become an immortal necromancer-king as his final act of ascension to legend. They got up from their meal and headed into the chert castle. Inside the keep they found the clanleader awake. Before anything else was said Latugdur simply stated "I am Lord Latugdur Stoneskin The Rhyming Satins, this town is now mine". He kicked the clan leader in the neck crushing her spine. Latugdur then kicked her in the head killing her. He suddenly realized the person beside her was the intended target as he was wearing the garb of a leader or noble. He killed him too with a kick to the head. With both of them dead on the floor he would deal with anyone else who dared oppose him. He was victorious!


   
All his friends became hearthpeople. He was now a lord in poor standing with the civilization he had just attacked. When he was ready he would take over the surrounding hamlets but that could be some years from now. He went about his final task before retirement, reading "Seduce Thief" the tome with the secrets to life and death. He opened the book carefully and read along. When he was finished the color had drained from his face but he no longer felt sleepy, nor would he ever have to feel tired or hungry again. He sat upon his throne with a smile at the corpses he would in time play with.

After all the dead were merely the amusement the living failed to be...

Hm, well. Masterwork is generally full of animal(stic) people, come to think of it.

At least these companions survive longer.
