I've gotta think this one over, I'm not a fan of MUDs :l

I've gotta think this one over, I'm not a fan of MUDs :l
Sounds cool though.

After about 5 days game time.

The Good:
- Star wars. Lot's of it.
- Combat is fun.
- Piloting is genius.
- This version of EU is fairly well crafted.
- A custom client that makes life easier and is awesome.

The bad:
- Limiting Meta.
- Some classes are outright boring or somewhat unplayable.
- Can't jump right in.
- Learning curve if you've never MUD-ed before.

The Truth:
LoTJ is just short of great in the most gut-wrenching way. You can't help but stop and say wow, this is fantastic, this awesome--but it'd be amazing if it just had X feature or Y number of players more--it'd be so perfect as a roguelike, ungh. The game is all about RP, and when it works it works--BUT, RP is intensely directed towards factions and if you don't want to play by the veterans' rules, no fun for you. While far from hostile--and indeed overwhelming nice and polite on the whole--the veterans of this game make little real effort to appeal to a new generation of gamers. There is fun to be had, and PVP relies as much on skill as it does on stats, but things are unofficially structured so that you have to do your time in the system before you get to make any interesting decisions. Furthermore, despite being overwhelmingly Star Wars-y there's very little that gives you that epic feel of wonderment like the movies or good games are like to do. The piloting is a great system, but if you're not in a faction say goodbye to your days of RPing a hotshot starfighter pilot, and for a game that has Jedi in the title it's notoriously difficult to actually "become" a force-sensitive. It's Star Wars--minus all the iconic parts. In fact, the game frowns on neutrality as well--a lot of time it's hard to be who you want to be, you have to be in the system. And to make it all worse, the PvE that exists is dull and meaningless. Quests are incredibly boring--the ones I completed anyways. The weird part is, it still relies on a leveling system on sorts, which is somewhat poorly balance--some classes are easy peasy to level up, others--like the combat class--aren't worth it to level up without a teacher who will just take you through to the top. To compound all that, the game is poorly documented--with almost all the resources to be found in the in-game help files.

Verdict: Give it a try--make sure you are looking for RP--and don't pick science or engineering on your first go, but keep your expectations relatively low. It's no TOR, KOTOR, or Jedi Knight game.
