I've seen some old mentioning of catching dorfs in cages to save them from drowning and magma (needs magma safe cages, of course). I don't know if that's been tried in modern times. Regardless, you need to get them out before they die due to thirst/dehydration or go mad because of lack of sleep.

Using cages to catch the non vampires is not practical because of the amount of work involved both in getting them out and reloading the cage traps, in particular since you'd have to do this both when the buggers are entering and when they are leaving, and sort them accordingly so they don't end up in a catch/release loop. Don't get me started on the bugged over stayers that just pace back and forth without actually doing anything anywhere.

Luckily, visitors don't sleep or drink, expect when forced.

Though yes, I suppose you can't dwarf-hands-off automate hauling cages into minecarts or reloading cage traps. 'tis the same concern as separate leader suite.
