I guess they removed it in DFHack (just looked through it myself); I remember disabling it via DFHack in previous versions when, in one notable fort, I got sick to death of loosing dozens of dwarves in a freezing biome because a flowing waterfall in a neighboring biome kept claiming opportunistic dwarves attempting to path nearby.

Of note, though, is they now have a tweak in DFHack that helps with temp calculations by forcing a higher absolute value of difference between temps of adjacent tiles before calculating temperature changes. Had a small impact on prior fortresses in recent releases.

Oh, and it seems flying animals will ruin fps sometimes if they are stuck somewhere.  For example, an area with a roof.
This happened when I got a roc in my corridor.
