year 12 fort, had two crashes in the last year and am somewhat turned off to keep playing it. I'm not convinced its DF, as I suspect my lackluster processor just cant handle the dwarfness. (g2020) not a repeatable or consistent crash, if i reload i tend to get a year to a year and a half before DF crashes.

has anyone eles had trouble with crashing this ver, or with lower end processor giving them trouble?

i am still getting 35-45 fps, ive been taking great pains to keep it high.

DF is not as stable as one might want, although your crash rate seems high. I'd either enable seasonal saves or make a habit of saving manually frequently (the DFHack command "quicksave" is quite handy since it saves without forcing you to reload). Fortunately, DF has a rather robust transaction logic for the save, and a crash on saving most often happens when cleaning up after the save, but when it does happen while saving, you usually lose the progress made, but don't get a corrupted save (it's not 100% safe, but quite good).

I doubt it's the processor. DF is single threaded so you may get worse performance on a processor with slower cores.

the crashes began year 11, before that nothing. i did however initially overwrite the ini when installing a tileset, i later noticed it was an old ini and quickly downloaded a fresh copy of DF for my save. did this before the end of year 1 but it might have a role in my crashes.

Overwriting a DF installation is not a recommended practice, if that's what you did. Making a new installation and copying the save is safer.
