Oh, agreed, the media can all fucking roast. And ain't it depressing to think that we've come to the point where the free press is one of the principle enemies of considered democratic discourse and honest elections.

Well, let's look at the comparison to obama's election and trump's election.

A lot of what republicans were afraid Obama was going to do was never fully realized, despite baby steps in that direction. The difference here is that Obama was facing an opposing Senate/House and a bipartisan Judiciary.

Trump has the full cooperation of the house and senate, and after a few appointments the judiciary will be leaning in his favor as well. There are literally no checks and balances left to oppose a republican agenda. They can literally do whatever they want.

That is why people are so scared right now. Trump by himself is upsetting, but a Trump with no limitations is scary.

It's Pence that scares me. Either Trump will be a puppet or he'll get himself impeached, and either way we're looking at an agenda that wants certain segments of the population expelled, "converted," or dead.

Also, I've been inundated with facebook messages from friends saying that Clinton supporters should stop complaining and change their tune or they're "being unamerican and against our democratic unity."

Same thing happened when President Obama was first elected. It'll be very interesting to see if Trump gets his honeymoon period or not, and how much Congress rolls with it.

Yeah, I remember the "grab your guns if Obama wins because revolution is a comin!" schpiel of 2008 and 2012. Never happened. I treat dems with the same attitude (be that emigrating to Canada, preemptively killing themselves, whatever) the same way.

Although the calls for national unity always make me laugh. After an election this nasty and polarized only the winners, whoever they be, could call for unity with a straight face.
