Artifact weapon thing

Hey so, I know maces are not the ideal murder weapon.

What about an artifact steel mace?

Maces are very good weapons especially with changes in combat mechanics.

Artifact maces are even better.
Hand it over to a soldier and send him to kill chained animals and see how it works :)

Yeah, there is nothing wrong with maces. Any artifact steel weapon should be alright really. Besides the ones that are too big and the scourge of course.

Artifact weapons give an x3 "to-hit" modifier, and maces are actually pretty good weapons, they can break bones and pulp heads even through armor, especially the iron armor most goblins are going to have. You got yourself a keeper, there! I once got an aluminum artifact mace. Not so good, hehe.

I got an aluminum artifact spear, it is effective enough.

As murder weapons go, they do well for themselves.
Admittedly, a single mace won't turn the tide of combat much, unless the wielder is 1.VER STRONK 2.VER BEEG
(IIRC, strength and size are the main factors determining how deadly it is)
but still, maces do a decent job, depending on the personality of the dwarf who's wielding it and the enemy.
They can always be used in traps, flung with a bridge or minecart, or dropped from a great height.
Failing that, just equip the dern thing to the biggest baddest meanest mutha in your militia and have him/her train with it religiously.

Just don't bother assigning any candy hammers you end up with, they would have the same impact against an enemy as a foam bat.
