Is this a bug?

Go to "Assigned a trained animal" via v-p-e, there should be a <number> war beasts assigned under the animal list.
But usually this doesn't appear, and if you assign some animals to the dwarf, it will display the number, but when you closed the menu and reopen it on any other dwarf, the number is still there.
Besides, the number is wrong, it doesn't correspond to the actual number of war beasts the dwarf has.

I've seen that, and yeah, it is some kind of display bug. I can't remember how exactly but there is a way to reset the display, I think you have to move off of the preferences screen to a different subscreen and then back.

Well, I planned to assign each dwarf with a dog, but I made mistakes by assign too many dogs to the same dwarves because of this.
Now it seems I can't unassign a pet, unless I kill the owner.

Been there, done that. Yeah, AFAIK there is no way to unassign a war animal.
