insanely long load times
« on: September 18, 2016, 10:07:47 am »

I am using the most recent LNP for windows and my save game file takes about an hour to load.

Does anyone else have such long load times?

The save is stored on a newer SSD and the system I use is a 4ghz skylake with 32GB or RAM.

Any suggestions? http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=12452

Interesting.

on and SSD, with plenty of ram...

Is save file compression turned on?  It may be an artifact of having to decompress the save file on initial load.

I had compression turned off.  It spends most of it's time at the "Loading jobs..." screen.  My saved games now take something close to 2 hours to load.

Bring up task manager. See if cpu or ram is full when loading df.

The system is idle except for df using about 1/8 of the CPU (quad core hyper-thread).  Disk, network, essentially idle with gigs and gigs of free RAM.

i have this problem when just starting up df and embarking in any world. with the max embark proportions, i go smaller and it loads faster with save compression on

Should we have embarked right next to a goblin fortress?
Yes we should have, no Goblins yet *yet*
