It honestly feels like just yesterday we were celebrating the ten year anniversary.

Or, not celebrating, but...whatever. Time passes too quickly. Why haven't scientists invented a way to slow down time yet? Stupid lazy scientists...they do one thing right when they invent the internet, and now they're all too distracted downloading porn to invent anything else! Not that I can blame them.

I was 25 and at work. And had been planning to attend a protest in Washington in about a month's time, because 9 months had been sufficient to illustrate that GWB was a fucking tool.

I didn't go that October. But I certainly went next October, when it was clear we were headed for a war with a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.


There are four images that will always stick in my mind from that day:

1. Watching a plane impact the side of the tower....then the camera pulling out to show the other tower already smoking and on fire. That was the moment when my brain went "wait..what? OH SHI-"

2. Seeing the first tower come down. Live on TV. Just seemed unreal, like a bad Michael Bay film.

3. Seeing that footage from ground level a short while later, of the debris cloud rushing through the streets and just engulfing everything.

4. Getting home and seeing a completely blue, completely empty, completely silent sky. See, I lived about two miles from RDU airport, and grew up about three miles from PTI airport. Air traffic noises were just a normal part of life, even a comforting thing. It was just...unsettling for that to suddenly be gone. I'm not even sure how many days the national flight ban lasted....three? A week?

The lack of planes was indeed weird, I grew up near DFW and we weren't that far from the airport in Louisville, right under one of the major paths so there were always planes coming overhead.

I think that was directed at the asinine 'never forget' campaign that GWB pushed so very hard in order to terrify US citizens and direct their anger.

Edit: I mean, hell, while I was in the Army I heard nothing but endless bitching about that bullshit attempt to manipulate people, and most of the guys who joined up that were quoting that crap lost it real damn fast.

you know what ive always wanted to sat?

and, no mistake, it was tradgic.  the museums were solemn, groundzero heartwarming, and our whole national identy was reshaped (for the worse, some might argue).


But god damnit, we get 1 atrack and were so self involved that i dont think ive seen 1 mention of any of the myriad of other countries that endure attacks, sometimes on a much more frequent level.  not domestically.

were so isolationist we accept tsa patriotact alphabet fuckery than any indepth consultation, and then turn around and ignore how we all go back to the same business as usual
