"There are no merchants trading" when traders are at depot?
« on: February 20, 2013, 09:08:22 am »

Hey guys,

The last few times the Dwarven caravan has come around, I've been unable to trade with them. At first, there's the usual message about them not being finished unpacking, but as soon as they finish, it seems, I'm unable to open the [t]rading menu, because "There are no merchants trading right now." The broker is present, and all wagons and merchants are accounted for, who entered the map. I'm in dire need of food and other supplies, but it seems impossible to get them, without deconstructing the depot on the merchants.

So to recap, one minute everything was going just great, and the next we have caverns collapsing, firebreathing cave beasts, underground brush fires, a screaming swarm of poltergheists back for revenge, zombies in the corridors, drunken brawls in the dining halls, magma pouring into the caverns, rotting miasma everywhere, insanity, madness, and a flying crocodile heading right towards us!

They probably spent too much time unloading their goods. Has it been two weeks since they arrived?

It would probably help to construct a trading depot near the map edge, and use the pathing exploit that makes them spawn near it.

Are you sure all of their wagons are at the depot (i.e. none of them got stuck on the way in, possibly colliding with a departing Human caravan wagon)?

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

I scoured the map/unit screen, and could not find any lalligagging merchants or burden beasts. There are no other civilisations trading with us. It just ticked to early winter now, and all of the merchants packed and left. There wasn't any notification of them leaving soon, or embarking on their journey.

You're probably right, though - there must have been someone stuck somewhere. The road and proper depot should be finished by next trading season. Hopefully there will be better luck then.

If they left early, it's possible that one of the merchants got killed.

That was the culprit. I found her corpse in a murky pool, but it's a mystery what happened to her.

Yes, the broker was there, legendary appraiser skill and all.

I know this is an old thread, but google came up with this one and no others (some bugtracker links though...)

My question:  if you have 1 trader from the group stuck on the map edge, is there any way to fix it?

Edit: I should have scrounged harder: http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=159297.0

This looks like a solution which I will try and give a go :)
