CONSTANT "Item inaccessible" once I open up the caverns?
« on: July 02, 2016, 07:13:40 pm »

Is there any way to stop this? It drives me insane...

I forbade everything in the caverns, suspended the "Collect silk web" job at the loom, but every single fortress I've had so far, as soon as I open up the caverns, 80% of the announcement feed becomes "Dwarf cancels Store Item in Stockpile: Item inaccessible".

What the heck is going on and how do I stop this? Is there something I've missed?

I'm using no burrows, no mods (outside of the basics from the Starter Pack), no workshop links, no fancy mechanisms, nothing reasonable that should be blocking any path to any item in the whole embark location...  :-\

There are dead things in the caverns that your dwarves want to take to the refuse stockpile, which are in revealed areas, but you haven't yet revealed the path to them.  Just explore more and it will resolve itself.

I see... It seemed like the corpses down there were already forbidden when I broke through, but I guess that doesn't apply to unseen bodies?

Anyway, shall try, thanks for the suggestion.  :)

I don't think corpses are automatically forbidden, just the equipment that killed beings drop.  The problem is that when you hit the cavern, some parts of it are revealed, but those parts are not necessarily connected.  If you can see stuff in one part, but there is no visible path to it, your dwarves will spam you with complaints about that.

If the spam is too annoying, change your refuse orders, or set your refuse pile to accept only from links, until you've got the entire cavern revealed and there are visible paths to everything.

Look for corpses in the trees, too. Crundles like to climb.

I think you're on the right track with it being webs collection.  Turn that off in 'o'rders, 'W'orkshop orders, 'w':'No Auto Collect Webs'
The webs often spawn in trees, up in the very top branches sometimes, so forbidding everything on the ground doesn't always stop it, you have to do a multi-z forbid, and then the very first one that spawns after that will start it up again.

Another solution for restricted collection I've seen mentioned in the wiki is using burrow covering loom and web collection area toggled with w to restrict the loom - however, I have no idea if this won't spam the loom (burrows usually do if dwarves are in them).
