Named weapons getting lost
« on: July 05, 2016, 02:53:26 am »

My soldiers are naming their weapons like normal but every year or so I'm noticing that one or two of them have some how put down their named weapon (and the less often named shield) and are now training/fighting without them.
They will stay weaponless until I force them to swap to a different uniform and then back to the proper one, at which point they seem to pick up the weapon again.

Any idea what is causing this?
They do have a training schedule of 2 months on, 4 months off. But there are no job conflicts.

Did they break through excessive training? They'll apparently get worn out now like armour, but I was under the impression that they're supposed to last quite a while.

-- edit Sorry, I see your weapons are still around. Still, might the dorfs be replacing them because they're starting to wear out (possible bug I suppose - they should probably hold onto named weapons until they shatter).

What's their uniform set to? Are they being assigned a specific weapon that they're naming, or is it just "Steel battleaxe" or even worse "Individual choice, melee"?

When you are shoing them around (like between squads or in the squad) they will take a different weapon unless you specifically tell them to use the named one

I've just got it set to "steel battle axe"
I originally thought it was from shuffling the squads around but it's happening to guys I haven't moved in years.
and its not that they aren't using the named one it, that's they aren't using any at all.

Is there some .ini option to stop them naming stuff? I've got a big pile of named weapons which no one is using any more.

Have you tried assigning specific named weapons for each dwarf?

Pretty sure once a weapon/shield is named it's considered owned to some extent, and basically becomes a soft artifact. Might be some weirdness where they don't count as plain old steel battle axes when it comes to uniforms anymore, but remains assigned to the dwarf, leaving them weaponless.

Definitely weird.

Had the same problem. It fixed itself when I created some spare weapons. Maybe it has something to do with them trying to shuffle their equipment around.

I've had dwarves stubbornly grab their named items even when the material doesn't match. Had to assign specific candy weapons just to get them to upgrade.

Reading his name would trigger it. Thinking of him would trigger it. No other circumstances would trigger it- it was strictly related to the concept of Bill Clinton entering the conscious mind.
