Ignoring the fact that this thread is an exercise in necromancy;

My latest fortress was pretty much designed with maximum efficiency in mind. The circular tower design with the staircase penetrating through the center assures that nothing in the fort is a greatest walking distance than a the amount of z-levels away + radius. It worked even better than I anticipated, and is by far the most efficient fortress I've made to date.

I have to say Roarsilver is one beautiful thing. I've been playing DF for a little while now, just getting the hang of things. One of my main hangups is a) efficiency and b) everything that goes along with it. Roarsilver is very inspiring! Could you go over what each level is? Thanks much.
