Goblin vs Window
« on: April 09, 2008, 12:09:00 am »

Hypothesis:
If you drop a goblin onto a window, then: KEEEEESH!!!!

Procedure:
Having no glass, I built a gem window, 15 levels below the surface, and a stone tower reaching 15 levels above the surface. I had a caged goblin handy, so I dropped that dude.

Result:
Window unharmed. Goblin harmed.

Video.

Something really needs to be done about ice. At the moment it's like some kind of Pitch Black threat where everyone dies at sunset. Feel free to substitute that film reference with one without Vin Diesel.

Niiice. You might want to copy this to the Advances in Dwarven Science thread, 'cuz it would really fit in there.

Also--be prepared to repeat the experiment if you get any glass windows. It can't hurt to make sure! (Or, at least, it can't hurt anyone important...)

Oosh, my question is if the size of the hole was uniform, how come he lost his arms? I saw that both his right and left arm were, ah, seperated from his being during the descent, Im just wondering how that happened.

Two goblin arm-sized holes were probably melted through that window.  Check to see if it was given an engraving or anything.

Why defenestrate when you can decapitate?

"Window" is just another word for "Upright Giant Axe Blade".

Another clever way to kill stuff in Dwarf Fortress.  Nice find!

Yes, but if you look at the video, you'll notice that some limbs have fallen through the window while the rest of the body stayed on top of it.
