I usually run with 40 and have never seen the limiting things even with several wild hives. Only annoyance was the keeper trying to use wild hives for stocking.
But i personally like a 10x3 building  3 stories high, with the top 2 floors rows of hives. And the bottom floor a stockpile, bedroom, and workshop for wax crafts.

Possible additional uses for wax that could be added though, on top of soap. Wax is useful for a little thing i saw a youtube video about.

Apparently back in the day, they would use little wax tablets that could be written on and erased to jot down info. Make them equippable to book keepers, managers, and scholars, and have it give them some kind of bonus to what they do. Perhaps archetect as well, and anyone whos teaching or learning something. Ability to jot down notes is always helpful.


I hate phone keyboards with a banged up thumb in a bandaid.
