Towers - Always Aggressive?
« on: May 26, 2016, 06:14:52 am »

Almost certainly a silly question, however, this has piqued my curiosity in my latest world gen:

There are several towers strewn about from other dwarven civilizations. They built them; they created them. Now, I realize you might think, "And?" Rightly so, but strangely enough (or possibly not so strange) one is actually populated by two former kings of said dwarven civilization.

It has been awhile since I played, and I don't recall if aggressive towers even have the red --------- indicating war or if that's just taken as a given.

Thought I would ask. I'm not ready for undead fun just yet, but I was definitely interested in knowing if it mattered or not. Honestly, nothing popped up in Legends about them as far as conflict is concerned. They just seem to sit around and write books.

Theres a number of different things to note when it comes to civ aggression in general.

----------- does not specifically indicate that you are at active war with a individual, but moreso that you have poor and broken down relations with it, actively hating each other for a singular reason or lots of reasons (repeatedly destroying caravans for instance) when a actual war commences, the embark screen will clearly demonstrate the words "War!!" besides the civ name and even on a eventual truce, it will default the hostility.

Firstly, anything that can speak but does not share compatible ethics will likely go into this state, and anything that can speak with 'utterances' will default to a state of war continuously on part of being unable to negotiate anything formally. When people dedicate themselves to the tower, they are most likely enrolling into a society that treats killing neutrals (therefore being hostile to anything that isn't explicitly allied) as a enforced requirement.

If we were to put our foot in the other cave spider silk sock so to say and take control of the goblins, all other races that arent similar to us (as in non-babysnatchers and banditry tags as well as ethical standpoints) are on the same level of ----------- aggression. I dont recollect very many instances of towers infighting though i would like to know if anyone has a experience of them doing so.

Even if necromancers (while not strictly a full editable civ entity but more secret behind the scenes oldcode) are well intentioned and 'friendly' towards the race & site of origin their zombies follow their will strictly in attacking neutrals and enemies and the entity code will kick in.
