Looking for worlds
« on: April 05, 2008, 07:31:00 am »

I'm seeking a prime location for my aztec dwarf ziggurat, but have created a few worlds and not found one yet.  Any advice?  Do I just have to keep looking?  Is my goal unrealistic?

I'd like the following:

Jungle/rainforest terrain;

Obsidian, for building material and macahuitls therefore preferably near the surface.

Nice extras would be:  Hot climate rather than scorching; sourced water; and I'd really like magma- is that likely to go with the obsidian or does it have to be shown on the map to be there?

Ta.

Magma will always have some magma around the pipe, but not much.  However, it opens the way for magma farming (dispute between the temple of rain and the temple of the sun...?).

The thing about jungles and such is that they only appear on really big maps.  Extreme-temperature biomes need a lot of distance between them, and that simply isn't provided to any real amount on maps smaller than normal.  You can get some in medium maps, but not as much freedom in the actual embark site since there will be fewer jungles to pick from.

Cheers mate.  I've been itching for a good aztec fort for some time, glad to see you're giving it a shot.  Make sure to add the [CAN_STONE] tag to all the weapons you want made out of obsidian (spears and axes come to mind, possibly maces as well).

There's plenty of modding to do that could boost this kind of idea, but it takes a while to do.  I say stick with [CAN_STONE] weapons for now.

Thanks.  Fortunately I've been generating full-size worlds, but no luck yet.

To speed the process up, you can try for strip worlds.  Have the N/S distance be maxed out, and squeeze the E/W down a bit.  Again, not as much area, but at least you'll get the "poles".

Okay, I found one that I hope will work.  Time to start work on Limulanam Gatin, the Golden Age of Panthers  :)

You might also want to keep an eye out for savage locations in the future.  Nothing quite like a giant jaguar to spruce up your temple.

Although a jungle isn't hard to find, i'd think that getting an area with enough cliff's to give a good enough Z level spread so you can make a half decent 30+ level building would be important...
