Is it possible to mod in hooked weapons? (AceSV - February 17, 2015) and my own collection of thoughts.
I suggest a new tag [W_GRASP] to be applied to weapons as a sub-variant of the regular wrestling moveset drawing upon the current interactions we have in the game already, and new possibilities opened up by more inclusive close quarters combat.
> Most weapons that infer stabbing have a stage in which they embed, like the purple text suggests, this would be a impact of background implicit though not direct [W_GRASP] tag
"The two handed sword has lodged firmly in the wound"
"Recruit Urist Mc'Claymore twists the two handed sword around inside the goblin warriors chest, a artery has been torn!, a motor nerve has been torn!"
"Urist Mc'Claymore: I am enjoying taking vengence against my nemesis, this pleases me"
"Recruit Urist Mc'Claymore pulls on the embedded two handed sword"
> Specific hooked/barbed weapons with modifiers for inflicting pain upon entry and exit.
"The goblin warrior slashes Recruit Urist Mc'legdays arm with the steel two handed sword *barbed* 'Backbiter'"
"The steel two handed sword *barbed* 'backbiter' has lodged firmly in the wound"
"The steel two handed sword *barbed* 'backbiter' barbed edges latch deeply onto Urist Mc'legday's arm" (On a percentage chance to catch upon striking once penetrating skin)
"The goblin warrior struggles to remove the two handed sword *barbed* 'backbiter' lacking sufficient strength!!
"The goblin warrior is exhausted
"Recruit Urist Mc'legday strikes the goblin warrior with his right fist in the teeth!!
"The goblin warrior is enraged!!" (strength modifiers playing a role)
"The goblin warrior pulls the steel two handed sword *barbed* 'backbiter' out! A artery has been torn, nerves have been torn"
"Urist Mc'legday collapses in pain"
All the while being slightly vulnerable while the weapon is caught to a counter attack. In the instance that your enemy possesses [NO_PAIN] or absurdly high amounts of discipline as demonstrated commonly in zombies may just in response while you're trying to tug your weapon out of their bodies take the opportunity to damage you.
> Using a whip with a explicit [W_GRASP] (as a example of what it might or could look like with a specific set of individual rules) to at some range or in close quarters as a extension of the user to quick initiate a wrestling grasp under a specific set of tools for that weapon targeting a area such as the leg, head, neck or chest. Able to disarm and lock down opponents into yielding, or apply pressure/ayhsphixiation/damage to a area by tightening and shaking. For military application, having a lot of people with whips is going to be more effective for wrestling away weapons and holding them down, not to say it will invalidate the wrestling role, but using a whip is less overall physically endearing and allows for greater reach on larger targets.
A [W_GRIP] weapon might be able to tightly keep a person in place but it wont invalidate more advanced wrestling moves like takedowns, and is largely dependent on the aim of the dwarf to land it on a opportune area that is exposed viably for grabbing. Heavy armour counteracts [W_GRASP] well but in the chance of it being successful, more weight on the object being tugged about may end up dealing more damage.
Examples of weapons where [W_GRASP] might end up being a explicit defining feature.- Standard whips
- Chains
- Ropes
- Lasso/Noose tools
- Custom weapons/tools or a not before seen variant such as a butcher hook or a grappling hook
Theoretically in combat, someone with sufficient strength could equip a chain (or even a set of chain handcuffs) and apply enough force to do serious damage based off the relevant size differences. Even to go as far as to say that a much more strong foe could drag a smaller one and throw them around offensively while grapped in the restraints with momentum (*applying a overhead swing with a chain firmly wrapped around someones body part to forcefully make them 'collide with a obstacle')
> Animals or sentients in extreme grip holds should have the option to yield if their ethics or severe danger/harm to person allows it, largely based off exhaustion in which they will give in and let a dwarf manhandle drag it to the nearest applicable cage in fortress mode, or wherever the adventurer wants to take a creature. Benign tags and tags relevant to cowardice/bravery and anger speed up or slow down the process.
Goes within the capacity in which a animal could be caught using your bare hands or assigned to be non-lethally subdued to which from there practically anything could be done to it (forcefully slaughtering it, caging it, id even personally suggest as far as to tame a animal hands on by climbing on a wild horses back and trying to 'break' it)
A noose or a lasso is a perfect demonstration of a [W_GRASP] tool, the favoured tool of ranchers and executioners everywhere, it has specific strengths when applied to the neck and very high reliability for successful 'grasps' and holding.
> Abstractly W_GRASP weapons could be used to simulate the experiences of being pinned to a surface by a sharp object like a arrow or even more grotesquely, a ballistae arrow by 'holding onto' the person being shot whilst attached to the obstacle until they free themselves (with poor chances of long term survival) or die from bleeding and sapped strength trying to remove it. Take magical arrows for instance or just magic in general, grasping someone via magic could be used to keep them still as to say artificially levitate them in the air or turn their feet into stone.
This is just a collection of my own thoughts. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
