0.42, 2 years in, no trade caravan and no invaders?
« on: May 08, 2016, 03:52:42 pm »

Beyond the first forced caravan, there has been no other caravan. Neither has there been any invaders. I even have Fortress Defense II mod installed. And I checked when embarking and after retiring the fort, there are 9 neighbouring civilizations (dwarves, humans, and 7 hostiles). Is there a big bug with interactions between civilizations in 0.42.06 ?

Most likely a hard to reach fortress. Could also be hostile relations between civs for some reason. Invasions dont always happen.

Are there closer sites the invaders might be prioritizing over yours? Also could be that your site is too difficult to reach, mountains and such are impassable and so armies need to travel around them.

Got a caravan and then my first invasion couple of months after posting this. I set up my fortress in the middle of a desert. Maybe it's just distance? Region looks pretty passable.

I'm in the bottom right desert:

If I don't get invaded as much I'll be a bit sad, nothing much happens otherwise.

Regardless of remoteness, the dwarven caravan will always come visit your fort.  The caravan may be scared away by a siege or bumped into a traveling army, but it will always -attempt- to visit you.  Human and elven caravans will abide by the ~20 tile rule and not travel to remote locations.

It takes minimum three years to ramp up attacks unless the civ is at war with you and sends troops immediately. I've waited five years for a civ to send its first war party. 42.06 rewards the patient and stubborn.

I thought a desert was difficult terrain much like a glacier is. So that if its inside a large desert its hard to reach.

It seems that there are more Dwarf sites closer to the pits than your fort. Maybe they are preoccupied.
