Phone Help Motorola Droid Issues.
« on: April 06, 2016, 11:33:26 pm »

Ok, so I am having some problems with my phone and it's a little scary, especially with my crazy life right now. Any help would be very appreciated.

I'm pretty sure my phone is a Motorola Droid 4The problem started about 2 days ago and seems to involve the sliding keyboard and screen. It also seems to come in two, stages.

The Problem(s):
First, the phone goes totally dark with the slide out keyboard closed. Oddly, the phone will still respond to touch commands, like sliding the screen or even opening a program (if you can remember exactly where it is on the totally black screen!), and things like that. The problem is that the screen is black and you can't see what's on it. BUT as long as you have the sliding keyboard out, the phone seems to work ok ... for a while.

Second, then randomly, it seems like the phone will not show any image on the screen no matter if the sliding keyboard is in or out. The phone will still vibrate and take calls (on a totally dark screen you can't see).

What I've done so far:
If I press and hold the power button for a few seconds, then the phone will seem to reboot and the screen (at least with the sliding keyboard out) will show images and work alright as it does in the first stage described above. This seems like a temporary fix, and I'm scared to death it is a hardware issue

If anyone knows anything about this, then please help me out a bit with some insight. It would mean a great deal to me. Thank you.

I would like to attempt to help with your problem as much as possible. I am not a tech though. Moreover, I can tend to sound a bit clinical, which is a problem when it can lead other people to have bad feelings about what I am saying. Also, I wish I had better news....

"sliding keyboard"

That right there is probably the source of your problem. There is a reason they don't really make those so much anymore. I'm betting you it's either a proximity sensor or just as likely a flex cable. Basically, that thing has moving parts and they have wear and tear. I'm guessing that there is either a loose wire or hopefully not a frayed one. Prospects are repair or replace. Note, i could not find a proximity sensor available online at this time; I'm sorry.

To repair, you'd have to get a flex cable/proximity sensor and the challenging part, you'd have to find somebody who knows how to fix the thing. This isn't impossible, but I'm not sure how much they would charge. To be fair, it is a delicate piece of tech, and from what I gather, not easy to repair. :(

I really wish I had better news to report. I hope I am wrong and everything ends up being ok with your phone.

Anybody out there know more about these phones than I do? (I don't know much). Help her out a bit guys?
