Neat!

I mean, yeah, it's probably going to be terrible and we'll probably die. But it's not like our life was on a particularly encouraging path until now. Hopefully "training" means providing valuable services we'd have trouble matching elsewhere, and not just throwing rocks at us while screaming about how if we were a real Nero we'd have skin of iron by now.

To adventure! It's like a barfight but with a 300 year old jilted suitor to our great grandmother, and he actually threw the first punch this time. And we'll probably end up in a crypt rather than jail, but you can't have everything.

((Well, there really isn't a whole lot for us to say beyond "yes," "no go away, I'll take my chances," or "cool train us as nightblade, no wait a battlemage, hey can you buy us full daedric it looks cool and you're rich right?"

There's some interesting info, but I don't see much in the way of interesting decisions unless we want to take initiative on something.))

((Well, those all still sound like choices to be made. Though I suppose the question is what to do after this conversation))

"My mother... Amava... has been dead for a few years now.

So then the "family" estate is no longer is the family at all. It belongs to a second husband who was never even named.

More significantly, that means that the woman the villain wanted is dead and that makes all the backstory seem even less relevant.

Pretty much agree.

I guess "sure, yes take the training." But honestly I'd rather go off and do something else. IronyOwl, if you have a "take the initiative" proposal, I'm all ears, but right now this feels like "press yes to continue" so I propose we simply press yes, and get on with the actual game.

Well, the story has always felt less like "I'll make her mine at any cost" and more like "screw you and everyone near you over this incident I can't fix."

Which is one of the main reasons I don't trust it all the way.

Well... we could become an exotic adventuring troupe. Current plan is to train us, then I presume track down our father, then I presume uncover the truth and confront whatshisname. We could try amending that to train us, track down our father while exploring haunted crypts and lightless caves, then recruit a fourth man and continue adventuring unless we decide otherwise. Finding father part aside, it'd allow us to go literally anywhere, as well as being good training, somewhat profitable, interesting, and would make life difficult for any jilted lovers trying to track down and murder us.

Naturally, Pops wouldn't necessarily be fond of that, but he kind of needs us and it's not a terrible plan, just... roundabout.

Either way, given his frame, I suspect grandpappy's a melee beast, though given that he's a dark elf it wouldn't surprise me if he's a gish and/or has a roguish streak. He could also just be an inexplicably well-built full caster, but no matter. A frontliner would open up squishier builds, though I think I'd prefer a more medium-armor path anyway. Maybe medium armor, conjuration, destruction, block, long blade? We summon daedric weapons and friends, dot an enemy, then move in for melee. Maybe add in restoration if we have time, or a utility skill like enchanting or lockpicking.

Our mother could do restoration and maybe alteration for defenses, and otherwise rely on hiding behind the menfolk for living.

"But Artorius, your mother isn't a hero like us proud Neros," our grandpappy says.
"And Artorius, I don't want to die in a cave," our mother points out.
"Nonsense, you're being hunted by a murderous cultist just like we are and think of how hot you'll look in a sorceress dress," we reply, settling the matter once and for all.

Even if so, he couldn't be bothered to do anything to the guy who got both the woman he wanted and her estate. It seems fairly implausible to me that he's going to go track down some random descendant three generations removed.

Personally I'd like to ditch this guy as soon as it makes sense to do so. Playing second fiddle to the GM's npc is never fun. As for our father, I see no reason to want to find him. We never met the guy, he's one step closer to trouble, and there doesn't appear to be any benefit to being involved. If we stood to inherit that would give us some incentive, but the family estate is now owned by somebody totally else who isn't related to us in any way at all.

What possible reason do we have to care about any of this?

I say we take the training, then go off and do our own thing. If "destiny" has something in store for us let's go find it without digging through somebody else's trash.

"Let's say I do agree to all this what do you have planned besides training me? Where will we go? How do you plan to stop Thavas if he is so hard to kill? What will you teach me? How will I be able to relax and enjoy some skooma if I have to worry about getting killed by the angry spirit of my great grandfather's adopted brother?"

Actually, I believe the last we saw of the heroic guy was telling his wife, the woman in question, to run for it while he dealt with the villainous guy who had returned to burn down said estate.

I kind of like the idea of a familial adventuring troupe. I don't feel like grandpappy would be that much of a shadow over us, though if he is way stronger than us and does want to do everything for us then yeah, that'd be neither interesting nor good practice. Splitting up would also (presumably) make it easier to hit one group or the other at full force, which would be unfortunate. I also feel like if he trains us we'd owe him something, and taking off immediately because his quest is stupid and our great-great-great cousin archnemesis is his problem feels like it'd be pretty ungrateful. Artorius might not agree, of course.

I feel like finding our father could be illuminating, though again, Artorius might not agree. Both of our only known relatives also want to find him, so it's also probably our only current chance to care about anyone other than ourselves.

"...and enjoy some skooma..."
PLEASE. We're trying to turn our lives around!

...I think. We might be trying to fund and train our way to self destruction on a truly impressive scale.
