Just to get this straight: when it comes to cave ins, the first tile where you could build traps is also the first tile that needs support?

Well pretty much. The first tile you can put traps is the spot where the 7 x 7 begins. That first layer shouldn't need a support it self though most dont know this since that layer is usually only dug though to make the door way.

That makes sense. The first two columns of the cliff wall act differently from other rock, for instance, they change appearance in accordance to weather.
