Btw, materials should be defined separately, not as derivations of objects. That way you could make, say, a chocolate floodgate.

A chocolate floodgate seems like a good delay for water. I'm assuming that chocolate melts when exposed to water.

One should have happy thoughts for drinking water with the right "pollutants".

I think it's rather a moot point unless something is done about farming. Right now it's trivial to farm enough food in either underground caves or a walled/roofed outside garden that you will never, ever run out.

Of course if goblins somehow stop farming, then yes it's an interesting (if disgusting) thought to have dwarves picking through the graveyard or refuse pile for a snack.

If you could build things out of chocolate...I would so build a chocolate tower.  Surrounded by a moat of molten caramel, with doorknobs of nougat and weapons of licorice and rock candy.

actually, you could mod that in with little difficulty.
coco trees -> smelter reaction that turns felled coco trees to chocolate bars -> construct blocks/furniture from the bars and walls from the blocks.
