Why no worship?
« on: February 22, 2016, 05:20:39 pm »

My Militia Commander will not worship her god. This has made her Badly Distracted. There is a shrine to her god set up, AND a communal shrine for any god.

Other worshippers of the same god have no problem. She has been taken off training, and is performing other civilian duties. Any idea why she won't pray to Quamun, God of Love?

Try to give her a squad (s)>>(squad letter)>>(m)ove order into the shrine, then, once she gets there, (s)>>(squad letter)>>clear (o)rders. I've found that helpful to get dwarves to do scholarly duties asap, it might work for getting your dwarf to pray as well. The dwarf will come off duty with a no job status, and most of the time will look for the closest job it can find, which in this case should be praying right on the spot.
Also, disabling hauling, and high priority jobs like farming until after she prayed might help.

What does her profile say? Is she a casual worshipper?

EDIT: more generally, giving move orders to squads is a rough way to tell your dwarves where to go when they have no job. They tend to wander to the last place they were ordered to go or where they carried out a job.

Interesting! I'll give that a shot, and report back. Get a bit of science done while we're at it.

I believe you just need to give her some months off. If you disable labors, she'll eventually get to it once her social needs are covered.

Also disable T in her barracks, or she might go train instead.

Here's a thing.

I locked her in a room with nothing to do but worship. She began to worship the right God successfully and then did not lose the distraction. I note that she wants to PRAY to Quamun, and the exact description of her action was worship. Does that matter, do you think?

<Worship> is the job a dwarf takes when pathing to the temple. In the temple it either takes a <pray to deity> job, or a <meditate on sphere> job (or sometimes they recite poetry, perform music, or dance too, if your civ has religion specific performances availabe). If you say he was worshipping the correct deity, then it must have been a pray job, and you misremeber.

If the job only says worship, the dwarf is either not standing in the (correct?) temple, or you somehow ran into a bug.

Note that briefly taking on a <pray to deity> job will not immediatly satisfy the prayer need. A dwarf needs a full cycle of prayer for that, which can be interrupted by sleep, drink, or eat jobs.

Ahhhh I see.

I only SAW worship. Next I checked was some later and she was asleep. She was actually inside the zone when she began the worship job.

There are multiple zones to this temple, so I wonder if she was trying to path to another part of the temple. I'll just remove all other zones and let her stay put for a bit.

Thanks for the help!!!!!!
