I would like to buy this, but I probably shouldn't until they reveal more on the OpenGL conversion.  My Intel chipset card doesn't like OpenGL, so it is entirely possible I'll be able to play today but not tomorrow.

Then again, I could always use Steam's "revert to previous version" feature and disable updates.  It would be pretty sad though.

EDIT: Fuck it, I'm buying it anyways.  It will be worthwhile just to read up on all the lore.  Decided to purchase this rather than another game I'd been eyeing due to the number of different factions.

Overall, I'm enjoying it.  I would enjoy it more if more people were playing it, lol.

I've found the following strategy in war effective with all powers:
1) Create an army of the best your nation has (I generally prioritize cavalry with 2-4 siege weapons, but whatever you can get.  I also generally discount the value of archers)
2) Give that army a hero, and crush almost everything in tactical battles.
3) Spam whatever the cheapest commons units you have to hold ground.  Numbers trump everything auto-battle.

WIN!

Posting to watch. I'm really, really interested in this sort of game, but it looks woefully unfinished at the moment. I really wish Early Access meant 'Everything major is nailed down other than a few extra features and general bugginess' instead of just a basically advanced prototype.

If anyone has this, please can you post an update here if there's a good update and I'll give it a whirl.

Some news about the EA2 Beta [2.0]:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/312430/discussions/0/487877107140308644/

Private Beta

"We have decided to initially launch the beta as a Private Beta - this is because we are not certain about what sort of issues may arise, or how serious they may be, and we will be unable to provide patches over the holidays.
So, for the next couple of weeks, a private beta branch will be available. If you want to take part in this private beta, then please send us a message (here, or on the Slitherine forums) - you can make a post, reply to this post, or send a private message to myself (please don't send messages to other moderators, they may not be around to forward the message over christmas and new year)."

This looks a lot more promising than it did. I'm still not yet convinced, but if the beta turns out well then it's a definite buy.

Anyone got on the beta?

Not me, but they have added/fixed tons of stuff since the EA release.
I will buy v1.0, but who knows that when is it going to be released.

So, the game is in EA2 now. They've fixed/tweaked/added lots of stuff in the last months, however the enhanced economy & provincial system will be implemented in the EA3 update. [They are going to add provincial buildings for example.]

Only enough to know that their OpenGL conversion made it incompatible for my system, which was a concern a while ago.  So make sure your system likes OpenGL first!

I put in 40 hours, which is the benchmark for "worthwhile game", so I'm not complaining that I can no longer enjoy any subsequent patches.  Just a little sad, tis all.
