I'm pretty new to adventure mode and while I was playing I started of in the northern regions. All the rivers are frozen and the water in my 2 water skins are also frozen. What do I do?

[g]make (yeah, not the most sensible, but its like [g]et) a campfire.

nteract with the waterskin to heat it over the campfire. iirc, should be able to fill waterskins with snow too.

Press (g), Make a campfire anywhere.
(I)nteract (mind the capital 'I', DF follows the roguelike convention of using both lower- and uppercase letters for keybindings) with the container that contains the water, look for the option to heat it at the campfire.
(e)at the water.

To refill the waterskin or any other container (bags are very nice), just (I)nteract with it and fill it with snow which you can melt at a campfire, or with water if you're adjacent to a running river or brook.
