I once found a cave that took up two and a half pages in the units screen of giant cave spiders.  I didn't play that map very long...

With experience of giant spiders, if you can just keep them off for a while and you build up your military, you should be able to win easily over them by overpowering them with numbers. You might lose one or two dwarves for each attack, but once the web is out and one of your dwarves is free/didn't get caught in the web it's usually game over for the giant spider...

I had something similar ones. 25 giant cave spiders under command of a giant. And a load of undead Gray Ones. I ordered all dwarves inside at the start, hoping they would seek refuge in my partialy underground magma vent i had settled next to.

Ofcourse, some idiot ran for the cave instead while being chased by the Gray Ones.

Watching a tidal wave of tusk and bone crash into a wall of chitin and silk was by far the most epic thing i saw in .33c The spiders won but they and their lesser minions outnumbered the skelephants 20 to 1.

I didn't notice untill later that fire imps had fried 5 of the 6 dwarves in the correct shelter and set the wagon(containing all the booze and food) on fire.

Good hunting for silk.

If you just post the seed used (and version) and approximately where the cave was (nearby named features?) I'm sure we could zero in on it.
