9. Adding magic would be almost inherently unbalance the game, probably adding some uber strong magical race and monsters along the way.
11. Toady doesn't care about balance! just like the op doesn't care about forum etiquette.
12. Toady will balance it, but only after he believes the players have had enough !FUN! being on the receiving end of it.

13: Magic would undoubtedly be given to the lesser races (list: elves) and they don't deserve anything. -1

Yes, that was the joke. Well he does care about balance, just not very much and any unintended super strong monsters are usually a feature.

Dont worry, dwarves can handle it. Infact give all the races except dwarves magic and it would be even better. They would be the badass normal in the otherwise superpowered universe. Much like batman to the other super heroes.

I would prefer magic to stay subtle. Most folk magic is alright, as little of it is practical to fortresses or adventurers, and what utility they could make of it would be limited in context. But the kind of spectacular output the OP is talking about should be rare and either inherent to rare creatures or achieved after years of dedication to study or faith that few are willing and able to undertake. It shouldn't get poured straight into your character just by reading one book.

FoU has some twisted role ideas. Screw second-guessing this mechanical garbage spaghetti, I'm basing everything on reads and visible daytime behaviour.

Would you like to play a game of Mafia? The subforum is always open to new players.

Well, the original slab was a divinely gifted artifact with the power to convey the secrets of life and death. This means shouldn't be reproduced for every kind of magic (like modders are currently making,) and you shouldn't be able to gain full enlightenment of the secret just from browsing the mage's autobiographical ravings.

4) Sounding like a 10 year old, considering a 10 year old would never play DF.
My eight year old cousin actually plays Dwarf Fortress. He tells me how he drowens elves and shit whenever I see him.
Your cousin sounds like a person who we would enjoy.
Tell him to join the forums and join the rest of us!
EDIT:On the magic side, it probably won't be Overpowered (like regenerating limbs or nuclear explosions) but rather stuff that isn't op, but a bit practical (Magic arrows), and for the more powerful skills to not blow up on you, you need to be good at magic, and not be a novice trying to cast, say, a nuclear explosion.

What about nuclear limbs and regenerating explosions?
