How do you pick a name for your forts?

I use whatever DF generates.

I use the randomly generated names, but I keep re-rolling until I get one I like.

How do you name your fortresses?

I was just curious to see how people choose names for new forts. My choice fluctuates with how I'm feeling when I start the game.

Press r repeatedly. Give up after 15 nonsense combinations, type random letters into search to jog my imagination. Usually go through two or three possible combos before deciding on a particularly genuine-sounding fortress name. It always reads a little cheesy later, but I can live with that.

I always pick my own. My current fort is Strangelove, founded by Sapbodies of Syrups.

I just take whatever name comes up. It's just a name after all.. my current fort is called "Pulleylengths" - not very poetic nor interesting, but a fort is what you make of it, not what it is called and if "Pulleylengths" becomes a legendary 100 year megaproject, that's the name it will be remembered by.

I usually go with what the random generator comes up with, but I do check it first and if I -really- don't like it I'll hit 'random' a time or two to get one that's better.

I just picked it from cool sounding names under the list.

Nothing like a fortress called Heaven the Mythical Virtuous Kingdom - Citadel of Immortals and a dwarf group named Demonslayers the Legendary Heroic Order - Conqueror of Worlds

I generally randomly generate a lot until I get one I like.  If nothing good shows up within the first 30 or so attempts, I'll start using the randomly generated names as inspiration for a manually chosen one.

ALWAYS the first random name. Far more amusing. Knowing full well that most of the game is a scramble for control it is only fitting that the name is inane as well.

All of my forts are always called Goldenspark, and the founding group is always called the Allied Sparks or the Eternal Sparks, whichever I'm feeling at the time.

I've always tried to give them names appropriate to either the site or my fortress goal.

It is the boring way. But if I don't, I get confused when I try to load the right game.

Fun tidbit of information.

This thread inspired me to try naming an adventurer manually. I didn't know everyone thinks you're a weirdo in game for having an odd name. People often greet, " (name), hmmm, you're parents must have been...interesting."
