Games with visible armor/weapon upgrades?
« on: January 18, 2016, 04:33:03 am »

I like a lot of strategy or squad based games, but so many seem to have a single character/class model and make it static.  Have any good games where equipping armor has visible changes to characters/units?

Medieval 2 Total War had those as well. Some basic units (spear militia for instance) even had 4 different skins, going from leather all the way tot full chainmail.

not only does newcom have varied looking weapons, armor, and equipment -- but it has a huge selection of purely dress-up options that do nothing but change your squaddies fashions.

different armor styles, sleeves, uniform colors, hats, sunglasses... I think you can do the general skin-color / hair / beard / tattoo stuff also.  Not sure, never messed with it much.

It does a pretty good job of making people from a specific country look vaguely like a person from that region.  Scandinavians tend to be pale and blond, for example.

The new Shadowrun games (returns, dragonfall, hong kong) are basically squad-tactical RPGs.  you have customization control over your main character, but your party members tend to not change armor so as to preserve their 'look'.  They do change weapons, though.

Fallout 1 and 2 were similar squad tactical RPGs, party would change their look based on the armor they wear and the weapon they carry.
