Stone to dirt conversion no longer working.

So I doubt this is a bug, or if anything it is a bug fix, but muddying a stone stile, building a floor on top of it, and then removing that floor no longer produces a dirt tile underneath.  I remembered saying I would research this a while ago before 42.04 was released, but did not get around to it until now.  In any case, it is not working for me now---can anyone else confirm whether or not it is working for them now?  I can't find the original thread where this came up, which is why I am making a new thread about it.

It "never" (i.e. 0.40.X) worked 100%, but rather something like 25% for me. Also, it seemed that it didn't work if the mud was dry, i.e. the wall/floor had to be built while the muddy tile was still wet. Thus, to try it I'd let the water out from an aquifer or similar large source of water over a large area and then order the flooring of it.

Guesses and speculations all, though as I haven't done it in 0.42.X.

It only worked if a plant grew on the tile. A growing plant "set" the tile to soil, then building and removing a construction cleared the plant and showed the soil.

I don't know if it still works in v0.42 or not, but if you're testing it underground you need to release the cavern spores to get the plants to grow.

I can confirm it does work in 42.04.  So far I have been able to reliably replicate the trick by wetting the stone--waiting for the water to completely evaporate (I had been building over it when the tile had 1 unit of water on it)---then it will convert it to a dirt tile.  So far I have only been able to get the same type of dirt through this method despite having numerous varieties available on my map.
