Inescapable bogeymen?
« on: January 21, 2016, 10:23:03 pm »

I'm playing as an elf with reasonable success and up until recently I've been able to pass the nights safely by climbing trees and sleeping in them, but lately this tactic fails every time and I get ripped to shreds no matter how high up I am, I have to revert to save scumming to keep this character as they're doing very well. Is this a bug or am I just missing something?

Grab a companion, alternatively, sleep in Mountains, glaciers, shrines, lairs, houses, fortresses, elf inhabited tree houses, etc.

Weird thing is, it's worked fine alone before, just sleeping in random trees. I like travelling alone, companions scare the game away.

Likely you just survived a night and got lucky, as sleeping in trees doesn't really help.
And like I said, sleep in stuff like shrines and Layers.

I played with a flying animal man and I thought I could just get away from them by going up a few levels but I was wrong. And also dead. So can they fly too? Or were they just popping in and attacking me on the way down?

Wings are random features they can spawn, and one that spawns with wings naturally flies. And if you get hit while flying, you go straight to the first solid z-level, at velocity. They don't have to hit you on the way down, just once will do it.

Bogeymen can fly.
After playing for a couple years, I didn't realize I could fear the bogeymen more.

Sorry but WHAT!!
Are you saying that poetry is scary to ninja babies? I thought it was jazz.
I can also confirm sleeping in trees/ground at night can be safe, its seems random.

The most reliable (and available) way of not performing the Boogie of the Night is to travel along an ocean biome coast.
